Download and Install New Cydia Beta Version For iOS 10.1.x Jailbreak

On Thursday, Jay Freeman (Saurik), the man behind the improvement and upkeep of Cydia released a new build of Cydia. It is marked beta at version 1.1.28 and he made it to be compatible with the new iOS 10.1.x jailbreak that Luca Todesco released not long ago.

Even if I do not advise any average user to use Yalu for iOS 10.1.x jailbreak, those who have already done it might find an improved experience when using this Cydia release.

The iOS 10.1.x jailbreak is in its early stages of development and thus unstable. The reason behind its instability is that the most important components such as Cydia and Cydia Substrate are yet to receive updates so as to offer the level of compatibility that the jailbreak community needs. As a result, users have been complaining about several bugs such as being warned that the program is 32-bit, not being able to select anything when on the Cydia Interface and some say their devices have become slow.

At Beta 3, the new Cydia Build brings along the 64-bit support and solves some of the mentioned issues. With it, the APT version (a package management tool that forms Cydia’s backend) moves from 0.7.25 to 1.14. Though APT 1.14 is slightly slower, the difference is negligible and is necessary to improve compatibility when running iOS jailbreak.

You can peruse the available list of bugs, and as a user, you must know that it is not meant for general use. For now, this beta is for users with the iOS 10.1.x jailbreak, and only those that are ready to troubleshoot. Some of the known bugs include:

• After installation, SpringBoard is not able to restart,
• Since Cydia is modified during the first install, it leads to a Cydia crash

For the above issues to be solved, both Luca and Saurik have to co-operate and that is likely to take quite some time to happen.

Steps To Follow When installing the Cydia beta

Users of the iOS 10.1.x jailbreak who wish to try out the beat should follow the following steps:

Step 1: If you are using your iOS 10.1.x jailbroken device to read this post, click on this link, if not, proceed to step 2.

Step 2: On your jailbroken device, open up Cydia and then navigate to its “sources” tab.

Then, under the tab, add the following link: http://apt.saurik.com/beta/cydia-arm64/

Step 3: After you add the source, allow Cydia to refresh and you will see three new upgrades. They are: Tape Archive, Debian Packager, and Cydia Installer.

Step 4:  Simply install the 3 new upgrades on your device.

Step 5: Reopen Cydia and make your Cydia version is listed as 1.1.28 at the bottom of the home page.

Keep on checking the available list of bugs to be informed of the fixes that are made over time. If you encounter any issue that is not listed, you can also report it on the page. We expect this new build to improve faster, but at the moment expect some issues since it is a beta version.
